HELLO! this is my attic

As we are all aware, the end of the academic year is creeping closer. We either know this because we are students ourselves, or our academic friends are filling up our news feeds with phone snaps of their all-nighters and dissertation-frenzied spontaneous pajama drives to the Chinese take away. I am guilty of partaking in many a frenzied-work-avoidance activity over the last few weeks ranging from the classic 'CLEAN EVERYTHING IN SIGHT IT MUST ALL BE CLEANED' to 'Let's go out for cocktails with my friends the night before the deadlines when the essay isn't even done', an impromptu hike along the Avon Trail River from Bristol to a Bowie fuelled and incredibly brilliant birthday party at my lecturers house where I met all sorts of amazing individuals and learnt about the existence of something called 'the mile high club' from one of it's members. It was great.

April was sunlit, warm and delightfully spring in every way, bringing blossoms, dandelions and bluebells and filling us with optimistic dreams of fireflies, long and warm summer evenings and bonfires on the beach. May (Rather rudely in my opinion) was all: "Hah! thought you were going to have a perfect spring? LOLOLOL. Have some rain you British people and LOTS OF IT. Do not forget on which temperate green island you dwell - fools". So rather than living the dream and writing up my poetry portfolio on the lawn among the flowers at Campus over looking the lake, I've been holed up in my attic room with its failing double glazing trying to avoid making eye contact with growing amounts of laundry on the floor (because my laundry has grown eyes).

Since this little blog of mine, is part journal, I thought I'd share a little room tour of my pokey attic which, even though the carpet is something I avoid making bare skin-contact with, and the walls are sometimes wet... it's still part of my student experience and marker of my third year at Uni. I only have about two months left living in here now before I come back home properly for the summer and eventually move into my next Bath flat in September. It's pretty important in it's own way, because it's the last room that will ever be just mine, all to myself. George and I are moving in together next term, and so I will have to live among his piles of junk and kleptomania. This is the last room that is (no matter how hard George tries to fill with his stuff) simply mine.    welcome :)

It does get awfully cold up here in the winter. Luckily, thanks to my brilliant Nan (Who if you've been reading the Salty Sea blog for a while, you will have heard her mentioned quite a lot!) I have been kept warm and toasty on the cold nights with my collection of hand-crotcheted blanky's!

My wall collection of snaps from last summer. Horray for Polargram!

These beauts have given me a fair few bumps and bruises to call trophies, but are tremendous amounts of fun. Plus, they are snazzy colours. viva le 90's.

This is my desk. Normally I put up my customary jar of flowers but this weeks went in the bin after they began to wilt :( My lonely cactus will just have to do for now

We have interconnected wall phones that we can all speak to each other on. It comes in handy since I live up about 4 floors worth of stairs so the post man can ring me! (or George buzzing me at one in the morning scaring the life out of me)

The view from my window :) The first night I moved in, last August, George and I sat here and watched the most spectacular lightening storm over these hills.

My current read. It is so difficult to put this book down, it's magical!

I like Dinosaurs. So technically these were kids pillowcases... but yeah. huh. They're mine now. I also have cowboy ones too ^.^ Often, George and I argue over who gets to sleep on the Dino-pillow. It's the main source of tension in our relationship :p

Love this ship! It was a present from Georges grandparents for my last birthday and we found it on our way to the church fete (I even took a photograph of it before they bought it for me which you can see here! in my post on the delightful day at the village fete)

I did paint this pink in Annie Sloan paint... but since it's got rather beaten up. I've got half a tub of Louis Blue left I think I'll give it a makeover when I move out :)

I love living in an attic (any small space for that matter) and I've got a few mixed feelings about moving out! On one hand I'm filled with excitement to make the next big step and move in with George after three and a half years of being together, but on the other hand, there's a bittersweetness and it marks the end of a chapter of my life. Another aspect of childhood; ones own little den. Perhaps when we finally own our own home I'll build myself an attic den :D Right now, the rain is pummelling my window, Bob Dylan is playing and I'm enjoying my last few minutes of peace before hurrying off to work to help sort out our Sale Launch. But shh. It's a secret ;)
Happy Wednesday folks

  5. Lovely :) I have a small room with an angled ceiling too except that just the second floor. By the looks of it, I wouldn't classify your room as small, because well you have a double bed. I can just fit a single bed, but that mainly because I have lots of stuff..
Enjoy your last 'lonely' time :)

  11. It's funny how you first describe it, I was expecting a hole! It's beautifully vintage, chic, stylish in fact all of the things I'd expect from you... *sighs.* No matter how hard I try, my home, my room would never look like this. I lack storage space and under my bed has turned into a dirty secret... I miss, crave, having my own little space. I'm never in long enough to enjoy it, even if I did have it. Mind you - I would love a meditation space. Maybe when I get my converted barn I will.

P.S. Good luck with the move. Still have some 'you' space even if only a chair.

    1. I love the description of under your bed as a 'dirty secret' :P Soooo relatable!
Thankyou for the kind words, I think I've just accumulated a lot of random stuff over time :P
It's better to be outdoors anyway and enjoying whats out there ^.^ Perhaps a garden would be the perfect meditation space? A converted barn is the dream ;)

thanks for the luck :D I think we'll need it, I need to somehow get my piano up from Cornwall :P lool xxxo

  12. Cutest. Room. Ever.

"Hah! thought you were going to have a perfect spring? LOLOLOL. Have some rain you British people and LOTS OF IT. Do not forget on which temperate green island you dwell - fools". <-- Oh, how woefully relatable this is today!
